Who is this course for?

Recommended for retailers, chimney sweeps, plumbers or builders with relevant experience, who may wish to further their learning into biomass and become MCS accredited, the H003 will enable candidates to enhance their experience and learn more about biomass and solid fuels and the technologies that they encompass. For those who do not wish to progress onto biomass and become MCS accredited, the H003DS will provide adequate training.

What are the aims for this course?

The course aims to provide candidates with information on all the relevant Building Regulations, as well as the British and European standards currently used in the solid fuel industry. Candidates will then have the appropriate prerequisites to progress into the H004, H005DE (when completing H003), H006 and H008 HETAS training and assessments.

What subjects will this course cover?

The course includes the following topics:

  • Instruction on all aspects of dry appliance installation
  • The correct installation of hearths and fireplaces
  • Different types of chimney and connecting flue pipes
  • Identification of faults and the correct use of terminals
  • Commissioning and servicing of dry solid fuel appliances

What are the Prerequisites

At least one of the following:

  • Demonstrable, appropriate previous work experience on dry stove installations.
  • OFTEC technician with scope of work categories 101,102 or 105e.
  • Registered Gas Safe operative with work categories CCN1 and HTR1.
  • Registered member of GOMCS, APICS or NACS.

What assessments are involved?

The H003 and H003DS provide a mixture of classroom based learning, practical learning and assessment as well as theory assessment, ensuring candidates have a total understanding of the subject matter and competencies involved for HETAS approved certification.

What do I need for this course?

All training manuals, technical handbooks and certification fees are included in the course fee.

What HETAS status do I receive?

Successful completion of this course is certificated by HETAS and provides route to application for registration as a HETAS Approved Chimney Sweep or /and Registered Installer (CPS).
