Who is this course for?
The City & Guilds 2919 course is aimed at experienced electricians who wish to upgrade or expand their knowledge in the installation of EV charging equipment, to provide services within the emerging market for electric vehicles in the UK.
What are the aims of this course?
The course aims to provide attendees with the practical skills and knowledge to competently install EV charging points to meet the needs of the growing EV market. Successful completion of the course can offer candidates the opportunity to apply for inclusion on the nationally recognised OLEV (The Office for Low Emission Vehicles) Register of Competent Electric Vehicle Charging Installers.
What are the prerequisites?
Candidates must be able demonstrate experience in the inspection and testing of electrical installations and knowledge of electrical installation practises.
What subjects will the course cover?
Covering the specialised installation of electric vehicle charging equipment in public, private and commercial locations, candidates will be trained and assessed in the following subject areas:
- Introduction, BS7671 section 722 and the IET Code of Practice
- Modes of charging, EVSE, restrictions
- Installation practices, risk assessment, earthing, protection, labelling & practical exercises
- On street, commercial & industrial situations
- Inspection, testing, fault finding & maintenance
- Certification & notification to DNO
What assessments are involved?
Spread over 2 days, the course incorporates a practical assessment and an online multiple choice exam.
What do I need for this course?
All candidates will require a copy of IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installations: 2nd Edition; this can be bought in advance or copies will be available for purchase at the start of the course from Waxman Training Academy.
In addition, candidates are expected to bring their own copies of the following standards:
- IET Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671:2008 amd 3 (2015)
- IET Guidance Note 3
- IET Onsite Guide BS7671:2008 amd (2015)
All test equipment will be provided as part of the course. Candidates who wish to bring their own test equipment can do so provided they can supply an up to date calibration certificate. All certification fees are included in the course fee. For the candidate application and registration process, you will need your National Insurance number and a passport sized photograph.
What status do I receive if I pass the course?
Upon completing the two day course, candidates will be awarded a City & Guilds 2919-01 Level 3 Award In Domestic, Commercial and Industrial Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation.
